Amber Hill Physical Therapy opened its sixth location in New Market at the beginning of May, and it’s the first location to have a therapeutic pool, said Katie Kober, the business’s director of pediatrics and board of directors member.
The location also offers traditional physical therapy services and has three private treatment rooms, she said. The aquatics program is led by Kelly Reichenbaugh, a physical therapist who has experience working with patients with various orthopedic and neurological conditions.
Treatment sessions using the pool are conducted in water that is maintained at a warm temperature. Aquatic therapy allows for greater control over body movements with less associated pain, Kober said.
“It’s really wonderful for people that land-based therapy is just a little bit limiting for,” she said.
The company, which has fewer than 30 employees across all six offices, chose to open in New Market because owners saw the town as an accessible location. The other locations are in Frederick, Damascus, Jefferson, Thurmont and Urbana.
“It seems like we’re a big company, but it’s really one or two therapists in each office,” Kober said. “We’re really a small business trying to offer as many services as we can in the area.”
